Expansion Consulting
Expanding your services is an exciting and tedious process. Identifying markets, key hires, payors, referents, growth patterns, infrastructure, operating multiple locations and so much more. I help providers with all the above, as well as identifying programs that are for sale, merger options, payor landscape and undeserved markets. I can also help providers identify whether an acquisition, de novo or a blended expansion model is most advantageous.
The Political Landscape
The behavioral healthcare space, specifically addiction treatment, is the last area of healthcare to be consolidated. What does that mean? Each specialty of healthcare that exists, currently is subject to uniform regulations, procedures and what is know as a “Rate Sheet”. Ultimately this means payors, the regulatory boards and providers have established fixed rates of what each service costs and is valued at. Furthermore, the majority of services provided are by individual practitioners and smaller family run companies. This is starting to change. Larger financial groups are entering the space, buying and consolidating services, locations and providers.
Financially this can be an advantageous time for providers and operators who know how to create new programs. Addiction treatment is still a vastly needed service on a global level. While it is a good time to expand and create new programs, this must be done in a specific way to ensure success.
